Technological glossary

  • Stressed-element engine
    Stressed-element engine

The Superquadro engine is a fully stressed member of the vehicle chassis. The stressed-element engine and monocoque frame integrate to form a compact, lightweight structure. In this configuration, the swingarm, rear suspension and rear sub-frame attach directly to the engine.

  • Monocoque technology
    Monocoque technology

The monocoque structure, made in cast aluminium, incorporates the steering head and airbox and attaches directly to both Superquadro cylinder heads.

  • Superquadro
    Superquadro

The innovative Superquadro engine is so called because of its massively over-square bore and stroke ratio of 112mm x 60.8mm and is designed as a fully stressed member of the chassis. Its power reaches an absolute production twin-cylinder milestone of 195hp at 10,750 rpm and torque to 98.1 lb-ft (13.5kgm) at 9,000 rpm.

  • Riding Mode
    Riding Mode

The 1199 Panigale Riding Modes effectively offer the perfect set-up to suit rider and environment. Titled Race, Sport and Wet the modes are pre-programmed to instantly change power delivery (Power Mode), ABS system intervention (if equipped), DTC, DQS and EBC levels, instrumentation layout and in the «S» version the suspension set-up (DES). Each Riding Mode can be modified and saved.

  • Power Mode
    Power Mode

The Power Modes are the different engine mappings which can be selected to change power delivery according to rider style and environmental requirements. For the 1199 Panigale, there are three levels, each one corresponding to a Riding Mode120hp with smooth throttle response195hp with smooth throttle response195hp with direct throttle response

  • Ride by Wire (RbW)
    Ride by Wire (RbW)

The Ride-by-Wire (RbW) system is an electronic control device for throttle opening and closing. With no mechanical connection between the twistgrip and the throttle bodies, the engine ECU adjusts power delivery according to the amount of throttle opening. The Ride-by-Wire system enables modified power delivery according to the selected Riding Mode in addition to enabling control for EBC and DTC.

  • Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES)
    Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES)

The Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES) system by Öhlins enables automatic compression and rebound damping adjustment, ensuring an optimum suspension set-up for each Riding Mode or to suit personal requirements according to riding style.

  • Ducati Traction Control (DTC)
    Ducati Traction Control (DTC)

The Ducati Traction Control (DTC) offers a choice of eight profiles, each one pre-programmed with a wheel-spin tolerance graded from one to eight. Each Riding Mode corresponds to a different, pre-set level of intervention by the system. While level eight administers a confidence-building, high level of interaction from the system by activating upon the slightest detection of wheel-spin, level one offers a much higher tolerance and so reduced intervention for highly competent riders.

  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) 9ME
    Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) 9ME

The 1199 Panigale introduces the very latest in sport-oriented ABS technology. The three-level ABS 9ME system is fully integrated with the three Riding Modes. When in RACE mode the system enables full ABS on the front only for enhanced track performance.

  • Engine Brake Control (EBC)
    Engine Brake Control (EBC)

The Engine Brake Control (EBC) system optimises vehicle stability under extreme corner entry conditions by balancing the positive and negative forces of torque subjected to the rear tyre during severe engine-braking. EBC monitors throttle position, gear selected and crankshaft de-acceleration rate and administers precise RbW throttle openings to balance the torque forces acting on the tyre. EBC has a three level operating system and is integrated into the three Riding Modes.

  • Ducati Quick Shift (DQS)
    Ducati Quick Shift (DQS)

The Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) system is a race-derived electronic component which allows the rider to keep the throttle open when changing-up through the gearbox, helping to save vital fractions of a second in the pursuit of faster lap-times.

  • Ducati Data Analyzer+ (DDA+)
    Ducati Data Analyzer+ (DDA+)

DDA+ is the latest generation of the Ducati Data Analyser system and introduces a GPS function that automatically records lap-times every time the 1199 Panigale crosses a circuit start/finish line. The integrated GPS function also allows main vehicle parameters to be viewed on the circuit map (throttle opening, vehicle speed, engine rpm, gear selected, engine temperature and DTC intervention).
